The secret to deck cleaning is using the right method, not the most pressure. In Olimpo, PR, we match the cleaner and pressure to the surface so it comes out clean without damage.
How we clean it
When to book deck cleaning
- Gray, weathered boards
- Green or black growth and slippery spots
- Stain that is peeling or worn through
- Dark spots under planters and furniture
- Mildew between composite boards
Why it gets dirty
- Sun breaking down the wood surface (it turns gray)
- Shade, leaves and moisture feeding mildew
- Old stain or sealer wearing unevenly
- Pollen and dirt trapped in the gaps
Safe steps for homeowners
- Clear the gaps between boards with a putty knife so water drains
- Sweep often and keep leaves off the deck
- Move planters and rugs now and then
- Check for loose boards, nails and soft spots before anyone washes it

What can go wrong with DIY pressure washing
- Furry, gouged wood and lap marks from too much pressure
- Water and grime blasted onto the house siding
- Using chlorine bleach on wood, which can damage fibers and fasteners
- Washing composite decking in a way that voids its warranty
What happens on the day
- Inspect the boards, rails and finish
- Protect nearby siding and plants
- Apply a wood or composite cleaner and let it dwell
- Rinse at low pressure, following the grain
- Apply brightener on wood and let it dry before any stain

Is deck cleaning safe for my plants and pets?
We pre-wet plants and lawns, keep cleaning solutions diluted to what the surface needs, and rinse landscaping again when we finish. Keep pets and children inside until surfaces are rinsed and dry.
How often should I schedule deck cleaning?
Once a year. Shade, nearby trees, humidity and heavy traffic mean more frequent cleaning; sunny, dry spots can go longer. Our free cleaning frequency tool gives a recommendation for your climate.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain doesn't stop most washing, but heavy rain, high wind, lightning and freezing temperatures do. If the weather isn't right, we reschedule at no charge. Our work is backed by a satisfaction guarantee.
